Invisalign Teen is not simply the standard aligner system with a different label. It is specifically engineered to address the real challenges of orthodontic treatment in a teenager’s life:
The compliance indicator. Each Invisalign Teen tray contains a small blue dot near the back of the aligner. The dot fades from blue to clear with approximately 20–22 hours of daily wear — the minimum required for effective treatment. This gives parents a simple, non-confrontational way to monitor whether the trays are being worn as prescribed, without having to ask every day. When the dot is still deeply blue on a tray the teenager claims to have been wearing consistently, the data speaks for itself.
Compensation for still-erupting teeth. Teenagers in active orthodontic treatment often have teeth that have not yet fully erupted to their final position. Invisalign Teen trays include eruption tabs — small raised sections of aligner material that hold space for incoming teeth and guide them into better positions as they arrive.

The Invisalign Teen Lifestyle — What Changes (and What Doesn’t)
What changes: The trays must be worn for 20–22 hours per day. They come out for eating, drinking anything other than water, brushing, and flossing. This is the primary discipline of aligner treatment — and it is a meaningful one. Treatment success is directly correlated with wear time.
What doesn’t change: Eating. Everything is permitted — the trays come out for meals, so there are no dietary restrictions of any kind. Playing sport. The trays can be removed for contact sports, and wearing a mouthguard over aligners is not necessary. School photos. Trays are removed for photos if preferred. Social events. The aligners are virtually invisible in normal interaction — most people who haven’t been told do not notice them at all.

The Process — From Consultation to Final Result
Step 1 — Orthodontic assessment. A clinical examination and photographs determine whether Invisalign Teen is appropriate for the case. Moderate to significant crowding, spacing, and bite issues are all within Invisalign Teen’s scope. Severe skeletal discrepancies or very complex rotations may be better managed with fixed braces, and we will tell you honestly if that is the case.
Step 2 — Digital treatment plan. We use digital intraoral scanning to create a 3D model of the teeth. A digital treatment simulation shows the planned tooth movement step by step — and shows what the final result is expected to look like before treatment begins.
Step 3 — Aligner fabrication and delivery. Trays are fabricated and delivered to the clinic, typically within 3–4 weeks. Your teenager’s treatment begins at the delivery appointment.
Step 4 — Progress reviews. Appointments every 6–8 weeks to check progress, change tray sets, and address any questions.
