Smile Makeover Price Guide — Managing Expectations in Addis Ababa

What multi-treatment cosmetic plans actually cost, and how to think about the investment

“How much will it cost?” is almost always the first question patients ask — and it’s also, unfortunately, the hardest to answer without a proper examination.

Smile makeovers are not off-the-shelf products. They are custom treatment plans assembled from multiple procedures, sequenced in a specific order, tailored to one person’s mouth. A price for someone else’s makeover is not a price for yours.

What we can do is give you a clear framework for understanding what goes into a makeover, what drives cost, and what realistic expectations look like for patients in Addis Ababa.

What is a smile makeover, exactly?

A smile makeover is a coordinated combination of two or more cosmetic or restorative dental treatments designed to comprehensively improve the appearance — and often the function — of your smile.

A typical makeover might include:

More complex cases might also involve orthodontic alignment, implant placement, or jaw-related work before any cosmetic work begins. The sequence matters — cosmetic work is always done last, after functional and structural issues are resolved.

The main cost drivers

Number of teeth involved. Most smile makeovers focus on the “social six” — the six front teeth most visible when smiling — or the “aesthetic ten” (the ten teeth visible in a full, wide smile). More teeth means more material, more lab time, and more clinical time.

Material choice. As discussed in our porcelain vs. composite article, material selection significantly affects cost. A full set of porcelain veneers costs more than composite — but lasts longer and may be more cost-effective over a decade.

Preparatory work required. If your gum health needs to be addressed before cosmetic work begins — a common situation — those treatments add to the overall plan. Bone grafting, gum treatment, or tooth extraction before implant placement all factor into the total.

Complexity of the case. Heavily worn teeth, significant misalignment, bite issues, or previously failed restorations make a case more complex and more time-intensive.

Laboratory fees. Porcelain veneers and crowns are fabricated by a dental ceramist. High-quality laboratory work from a skilled ceramist adds cost but is non-negotiable for beautiful, long-lasting results. At Novo Care, we work with ceramists who understand the specific aesthetic standards our patients expect.

A sample range of treatment combinations

These are illustrative examples, not fixed prices. Your actual treatment plan and cost will be determined at consultation after a full clinical assessment.

Entry-level makeover (2–4 teeth): Whitening plus two to four composite veneers on the most visible teeth. This addresses a specific concern — a chipped tooth, two discoloured front teeth — without comprehensive reshaping. A targeted, accessible starting point.

Mid-range makeover (6 teeth): Whitening plus six porcelain veneers on the social six. This is the most requested makeover at Novo Care. The result is dramatic and long-lasting. The investment is significant but spread across a treatment that lasts over a decade.

Comprehensive makeover (10+ teeth): This involves the full aesthetic ten or more, often including gum contouring, replacement of old restorations, and possibly digital smile design to preview the outcome. The planning phase is as important as the clinical phase.

How to think about the investment

Patients often compare cosmetic dentistry costs to discretionary purchases — clothing, electronics, holidays. A more useful comparison is long-term personal investments: eyewear, skincare regimens, or professional attire.

A set of well-placed, high-quality porcelain veneers maintained properly will last 10 to 15 years. Divided across that timeframe, the cost per year is often lower than patients initially imagine.

We also offer structured payment plans for comprehensive treatment at Novo Care. We’d rather you have the right treatment properly — and pay for it over time — than a compromised treatment for the wrong reasons.

What to bring to your consultation

To give you an accurate estimate at your first visit, it helps to come with:

  • A clear description of what bothers you about your current smile
  • Photos of smiles you admire (from social media, magazines, anywhere)
  • Any previous dental records or X-rays
  • An honest sense of your timeline and budget range

We won’t judge your budget. We’ll use it to help build the most impactful treatment plan within it.
