Understanding the recovery process is the best way to feel confident about your dental implant journey. While the idea of “oral surgery” sounds daunting, most patients find the recovery much easier than they anticipated.
At Novo Care, we walk you through every stage of the dental implant recovery timeline to ensure you are comfortable and informed.
1. The First 24–48 Hours (Immediate Aftercare) Immediately after your procedure at our Addis Ababa clinic:
- Rest: Avoid strenuous physical activity.
- Manage Discomfort: Any minor soreness can be managed with standard over-the-counter pain relief.
- Diet: Stick to very soft foods (smoothies, yogurt, lukewarm soup). Avoid hot liquids and straws.
2. The First Week (Initial Healing)
By day 3 or 4, most swelling and minor bruising will begin to fade.
✔ You can slowly reintroduce solid but soft foods (pasta, scrambled eggs).
✔ Continue gentle saltwater rinses to keep the surgical site clean.
✔ You can usually return to work within 1–2 days of the procedure.
3. Months 3–6 (Osseointegration)
This is the most important phase of the dental implant stages. While you won’t “feel” anything happening, your jawbone is busy growing around the titanium post.
- During this time, you will wear a temporary crown or bridge so you are never without teeth.
- Once our surgeon confirms the implant is rock-solid, we will take final impressions for your permanent porcelain tooth.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q1. When can I eat normally again?
Most patients return to a normal diet within 1–2 weeks, though we recommend avoiding extremely hard or crunchy foods directly on the surgical site until the final crown is placed.
Q2. Will I have a gap in my teeth during recovery?
No. We provide aesthetic temporary solutions so your smile looks complete throughout the entire healing process.
